Sorry to be asking so many questions but I have no idea what to do. The week before last my abdominal pain got a lot worse and was accompanied by very little stool, mostly blood or bloody mucus. Then about every other day that week as soon as it got dark I spiked a fever over 102. So I went to the ER. The CT showed only mild inflammation. The GI then ordered the sigmoidoscopy but it was awful because I was begging for them to put me out and they didn't first so I was screaming when they took the biopsies. The GI said he had never seen anyone do that and my pain didn't match what he saw. He put me on IV Solu-medrol and I spent last week in the hospital. While I was there I continued to have high fevers. They ran a bunch of stool tests, all negative, and a lot of bloodwork. The bloodwork showed really high WBC and other indicators of an infection but they can't figure out if it's a separate infection or my UC and apparently steroids can inflate WBC. I never improved at all and spent the last couple of days begging to be discharged since they weren't actually doing anything for me. The GI admitted he had no idea what was going on. His big discharge plan was to tell me to go back to my GI and continue my plan to start Entyvio. I contacted my GI while in the hospital but I still haven't head back.
Last night during one of my usual bathroom visits I felt hot and checked my temperature and it was 99. Now it's 102. I haven't spiked any fevers during the day with this. Would you take Tylenol? Or let the fever try to burn up the germs? Anyone go through anything like this? I have no idea what to do. I was supposed to start my first infusion of Entyvio tomorrow but they told me when I scheduled that I cannot do it if I'm sick or have a fever. Is that pretty standard? Should I try to do it or cancel? I know Entyvio is not a fast acting drug so I really want to get started. Plus I was hoping that it might have a faster success rate following my IV steroids that may have done something to reduce inflammation.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!
