Bumps on skin after seeing blood

Hello, my son has UC and got diagnosed few years ago! I remembered that got bumps on his skin few weeks after he first saw blood in his stool and it was scabies! Do you think there is a connection between the two?

I doubt that scabies, a parasite, was the cause of your son's Ulcerative Colitis diagnosis. At least you are the first person to claim this in the many years I've read this forum, so there's no common history of this happening with many of us.

Generally, those with a UC diagnosis are more prone to having skin issues whether that is dry skin, rashes, or having skin allergies like contact-dermatitis. As UC is likely an immune deficiency or autoimmune disorder, we are much more prone to other immune caused skin disorders like eczema or psoriasis.

I contracted a parasite (dientoameboa fragilis) when I was 16. That started all my problems, which eventually led to UC, pyoderma & even more lovely Crohns. My GI said it's likely that the parasite was the trigger & that IBD was lying dormant given my family history. I do wonder what would have happened had I not drank that spring water though.

I'd suggest checking out www.badbugs.org. Lots of info on a possible connection there.

Hi Ewa!

Yes & no. GI was getting ready to scope me thinking it was UC, but before he could stool test came back as parasite. We breathed a sigh of relief. He gave me tetracycline but I had sudden vomitting & d so it was stopped. GI concluded it now must have been a false positive. And started treating me for microscopic UC even though I still had no diagnosis. Fast forward 10 years later when as an adult I start researching parasites....I got on an actual drug for parasites & within hours b went....then d slowed. It was also suggested by the above website that I go on GF diet. Well with the drug/diet combo cleared me up for a year. People commented on my glowing skin, my energy was amazing (finishing grad school) & I was getting confidence from not having to worry about my bowel. Then all hell broken loose at the age of 28sad.

Why do you ask? Do you think a parasite has affected you?

Thanks UB smile I was curious because in Poland there's a tendency to disregard parasites and many doctors don't want to treat them saying that toxins which are released into the bloodstream due to the 'destruction' of parasites are more dangerous than actual parasites. However, this theory has many opponents. As for me, i was tested for parasites after my diagnosis and it came negative. However, after several months the tests were repeated and they showed i had been infected with yersiniosis, but it was gone and inactive at the moment of doing the tests. I still don't know if there were any connection between this yersiniosis incident (have no idea when it happened) and the uc diagnosis. If you feel such a great change after eliminating gluten, maybe you should get tested for celiakia?

I'm positive there was a connection for me even if my current GI was correct that it was a trigger for dormant genetic UC--now crohns.

That gluten response was 15 years ago and it only lasted for a year. I'm basically GF still but have many cheats. Too hard to follow with depression with everything going on. I feel pretty hopeless generally.

Tested for celiac many times..all negative.

I'd suggest looking at that web site....badbugs.org . Yes "die off" is rough but much better than living with parasites.

Any idea how you got yersiniosis?

How is your UC?

I hope you have a happy and healthy New Year Ewa. I've appreciated all the help and compassion you've shown me.

Thanks UB smile I do hope that the New Year will finally bring you relief from all the problems you've been coping with and your HB sessions will be a great success smile
as for my yersiniosis, i have so many suspects, e.g. fake mineral water in Goa,India, (later i've read it's a common practice to pour tap water into the bottles and sell it as 'mineral') where i had spent holidays before going ill or even more likely, one restaurant in Poland where i had eaten steak which wasn't well done and this was just before my severest symptoms. Whatever it was, now we must do everything to get it over and i strongly believe some miracle medicine will be invented soon, like it was with hepatitis C or many other once incurable diseases smile

How long after getting infected with yersiniosis did your symptoms appear? My bet is on Goa.

I drank spring water at 16 on a fantastic camping trip with my girl friends. 4 days later I got a high fever and d.....and I've never been the same with exception of 1 year when I was 27.

Those getting diagnosed today have far more options then what I had at 16. Back then my symptoms were more IBS-ish but my bowel still ruled. Everyone is now chasing the MAP idea or other bacteria as a cure. IDK. I don't think I'll see a cure in my life time--far too many variables but I truly hope you will see a cure and be cured yourself.
