How much mesalamine for maintenance?

It seems that if you have solid remission, that 1 400mg pill is as good as 3 400mg pills spread over the day.

It doesnt say one 400mg once daily...it says 2400mg once daily rather than spread out.
The study was done with 400mg asacol pills.

I'm curious about Apriso, then. The pills are .375 grams, and I'm to take 4 a day, which is only 1.5 grams a day? The Apriso site says that's the recommended dosage, and two different doctors have given me the same prescription and no one suggested upping it. Is Apriso different?

The clinical trials show apriso to work as well as other mesalamines but at lower dosages. Perhaps the coating results in more/all of that medication reaching the desired area (that is more efficient). Whereas lialda is delivering some of its med too early or too late.

yes, my bad it does not say 400 vs 2400, is says 2400 all at once versus spread out.

@quincy - I am registered to receive free email links to the abstracts. I can't get the articles (as a private person) without paying. But after about 3-4 months, I can get the articles through the university library where I work.

I have been told by doctors that I could take all the mesalazine at once. To be honest I was doing just fine as I was, multiple times a day, and had been for years, so it was no advantage to move it all to once a day and actually this just disrupted my routine. I should never have tried it, there was no reason to for me.

Any idea about sulfasalazine? I am guessing that the 'sulfa' component means that it's not the same and I guess it has to be spread out. My doses are spread four times a day.

Yes, I'd keep the sulfasalazine doses spread out as prescribed to avoid side effects or toxicity from the sulfa component.
