need top UC center in boston and naem of doc-UC + no spleen

hello, I recently lost my spleen due to a botched colonoscopy while being evaluated at a motility center in another state. I was diagnosed with UC. I live in MA and want to find a doctor and center that can handle someone with mild/moderate colitis and no spleen.

Because I have no spleen, everything is more difficult. Colonoscopies, sigmoidoscopies, dental work etc. due to the potential for infections.

Therefore I thought trying a crohns,colitis center in Boston would be best. I know of 2-Brigham and Women's and Mass General. I am leaning towards BWM.

Would appreciate anyone who goes to either to please provide your opinion on the pros and cons ofeach center and what doctor to ask for.

By the way, does anyone that has been to either know if they use individual shields over there endoscopy equipment? It is safer, since the equipment can't be sterilized and without a spleen, you have a decreased immune system and are more susceptible to bacteria .

I'm going to Mass General and am treated in the Crohn's and Colitiis Center. My GI has been absolutely fantastic. I have never gone more than a business day without a response from him to an email question or phone call and usually hear from him (occasionally his nurse) within a few hours.

When I became mesalamine intolerant and was struggling with symptoms he was in touch on a daily basis regarding symptoms and improvements, going so far as to call me on a weekend when I had to call the on-call doctor. They are great about individual medical issues and also, my colonoscopy was a very professional and positive experience (as much as a scope can be).

They are typically super fast with urgent appointments. When I first needed to be diagnosed, I called on a Wednesday, was seen by the GI that Friday, had the colonoscopy the following Wednesday, and started treatment that same day.

I now receive my Remicade treatments there and have found them easy to work with in terms of scheduling, insurance and billing issues. Mass General is the 4th ranked hospital in the country for Gastroenterology per US News' rankings, and I could not be happier with them.

Yes, I'm working with Dr. Jay Luther. He is an IBD specialist which is very helpful.
