Lomitol or not?

Hello,
So this is my first flare which has almost lasted 4 weeks now. The only break I get is if I take lomitol at night and it works for 4-6 hours than I'm right back with bloody diarrhea and feeling tired.

Should I keep taking it? Can it help or hurt me in the long run?

I don't want to come dependent on it but I can't stop using the bathroom.

Down 20lbs and anything I eat has same effect. Just miserable.

Apriso and prednisone taper for a week now and feel like it's getting worse not better.

Rectal meds....yes

Lomotil.....no.

Imodium... maybe low dosage at night occasionally so you can sleep and retain rectal meds 😆

Rectal meds....will help to treat inflammation.

Colon imobiliser.....helps squat with inflammation.

Of course.....your choice, but I encourage for you to embrace the concept. No one will think you less than Texan.

No, you should treat the underlying inflammation with UC meds and not rely on things like lomitol/Imodium.

Doctor didn't want to put me on rectal meds. He suggested remicade or envityo or however you spell it.

You can insist on rectal meds before trying a biologic. If you have proctitis, it might be a good idea. If it is severs pancolitis, then I can see the point of starting a biologic.

Rectal meds....contrary to the ass-umption, are helpful for any extent of UC.

No rectal meds here. Doctor said I would only help A small portion of my problem. He gave me 2 options. Apriso and pred or remicade next.
Lomitol helps get me through the nights at least.

How about Bentyl?

Bentyl is an antispasmodic and anticholinergic and smooth muscle relaxant.....it will help with symptom relief of gas pain and spasming and lowers acid in stomach. It could help at night....but not at all with inflammation.
It's been amazing for me.

tell your idiot doc to kiss your flaring ass and write you a script for some butt meds -

and use imodium as needed -

Lomotil doesn't help heal UC but it can help symptoms and make some things more bearable especially if you need to leave the house etc. Just be careful, lomotil as well as immodium can cause toxic megacolon for people with UC in a flare.
