Yes, you can become intolerant to Mesalamine at any time. It's fairly rare but can happen. More often an intolerance happens the 1st time you try it.
Why do you ask? Were your symptoms bad, you stopped mesalamine for 48 hours and saw significant improvement? As that's what I would do if you suspect one. Afterwards report to your gasteroenteroligist.
An intolerance is described as a dramatic worsening of your UC symptoms. Like going from 2 solid, nonurgent bms a day, to suddenly going to very loose and very urgent 6-8 bms a day. Like I said, dramatic!
