Humira and blood in urine

Hi, It looks like I have blood in my urine.

I have felt like I needed to pee more recently, and then today I noticed blood on the tissue.

I can take a urine sample to be tested at the Labs in the morning..What exactly do I need to ask them to look for/test for?

I read that this can be a side effect of taking Humira?


What do I need to do about this problem, and to get rid of it.

I started taking Humira on the 13th of July and I am now down to 5g of Prednisone and about to taper further to 2.5g this Friday when I take my Humira shot.

I've had many utis and my main symptoms are very much like tenesmus -- feeling like you have to pee every 5 minutes with nothing much coming out and severe cramping and blood. A urine culture will pinpoint the bacteria. Mine is usually e.coli and I am prescribed a 5-7 day course of cipro which knocks it back quickly.

There is also an over the counter pill (don't recall the name) or a prescription strength pill to deal with the cramping should you experience that. Its a brown pill that turns your urine orange and provides tremendous relief while waiting for the antibiotics to kick in

Thanks, I have never had a UTI before so I had no idea what it was, and from your description, it is most definitely that!

Has anyone managed to treat a UTI without antibiotics?

Flower girl mentions Ciprofloxacin, is there another one if I cant get this one..you see I can buy antibiotics over the counter where I live! but I know that we have to be careful as some antibiotics are very bad for us.

I think antibiotics are a necessity for a uti, especially when immunosuppressed. As untreated infections while suppressed can spread and become blood-born as a sepsis. Therefore don't mess around with home-remedies and wives-tales in your case.

Antibiotics certainly give us pause and sonetimes fear when we have UC. There's no guarantee of a flare, only a slightly increased risk of tgem. Therefore take them when justified (a uti, bronchitis, sinus infections, etc.) but question when it sounds like an over-prescribe situation (like you have a cold). Take the antibiotic with a good probiotic.

Poppies. I took 500 mg. I would go for 7 days if I were you. You want to be sure you knock it out. I got a uti in April and the cipro did not bother my UC. I made sure to double up on probiotics after I was done with the cipro. I have never been able to get rid of a UTI without antibiotics. You'll feel better in 24 hrs! That's the good news. ;-)

quincy.....Thanks, yes I bought some cranberry juice today so I am on it! and I am also taking probiotics as well. I am just glad I finally realised I had a problem...
