I have had colitis for 30 years and have been in and out of remission. Lately, I was in remission for two years until I got back from Cuba last week. The day after I got back from Cuba, I went on another trip and developed diarrhea which has been non-stop for a week. No bleeding, no mucus. The number of times I have had to go to the bathroom has diminished as I increased my use of Canasa but the diarrhea is still there.
I am currently taking four tabs of generic Lialda along with the Canasa. I have an appointment with the doctor on Monday and had to cancel a trip from NYC to my other residence in Florida as we were driving. I am now more confident about going but I want to get treatment for the diahrrea. I used Imodium twice which was effective but do not want to get used to doing this based on the toxic effects that can occur using it consistently.
What I fear most of all is that my doctor is going to want to prescribe prednisone as I want to avoid this at all costs. Any other suggestions? I have been staying on a bland diet and really hoping the diarrhea dissipates over time doing what I am doing.
