Hi there! I've hardly posted here, so I apologise for the long story that follows, but figured it would be useful to explain things a bit.
So I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in April 2014, after which a course of Prednisone and Pentasa put me back into remission for a couple years. Last year, however, things started to turn sour. Long story short, I went through a number of medications, only to have them fail on me and land me in the hospital 3 times for a week or longer each time. After my most recent hospital stay in October 2016, the Remicade that I had been taking since May 2016 started to fail me. I got switched to Humira in March 2017 after developing antibodies to Remicade and having a troublesome reaction to Entyvio, to which I have refused to take it ever since. I improved pretty drastically when I first started Remicade last year, but I haven't seen the same kind of improvement with Humira. I've read that it can take a bit longer to react to Humira in general, but I'm at a point now where it's been 10 months of use, along with an increase in dosage (I'm currently taking 2 pens @ 40mg each week), but I'm still experiencing symptoms.
When things were at their worst last year, my symptoms were pretty much constant bleeding, some urgency, pain, fatigue, 10-20 times per day, the whole shabang. However at the moment, I'm still experiencing 10-15 washroom trips a day (also waking me up every couple hours a night), with severe urgency (to the point where I literally have seconds to get to a toilet), similar symptoms except I'm not passing blood as much. Don't get me wrong, there's still blood every now and again (most often when I try to leave the house and my anxiety shoots through the roof), but not nearly to the same degree as it has been.
I'm just a bit confused. I've been told by my gastroenterologist that the inflammation has greatly improved (as per a scope back in August), but some of these symptoms linger, and are quite frankly, debilitating. Does this sound like remission? Flare? Some kind of simmering, in-between state?
Thanks for any and all feedback!
