Heart flutters and mezavant?

Hello everyone...just wondering if anyone might have experienced this? UC wants to act up again so I started mezavant again Jan 3 to 8, 2018. I felt flutters or flipflops on occasion at least 2x per day since the second day I started med. . I don't know if because overtired or if because of UC acting up and the Vegas nerve reaction or a reaction to mezavant? The last time i took mezavant was Jan 8 and I was awakened from sleep with my heart flip-flopping. So I stopped taking it to see what happens and havent had a heart flutter yet.

So needless to say, I am a bit anxious to take it again but I probably should to keep UC from getting out of hand. My bmS a bit blood in it but only about 1x per day and mostly formed.

Hmmm? Suggestions would be so helpful... wink

I dont know if there is a specific concern level with the medicine itself, but I have always had some heart fluttering/flip flopping. It was the worst when I was pregnant with my third child. I actually wore a holter (I think that is what they call it) and the cardiologist did an ultrasound of my heart. He told me that my heart was very healthy, and not to worry about the flutters (some of which did show up.) Apparently, unless a heart doesn't come back to normal, it isn't a problem. I have had extra flutters from Prednisone and solumedrol, and nurses have assured me it's a normal reaction. Maybe ask your docter if there is a threshold where you should be concerned at so you can know what might still be in the range of normal.

Are you certain it is a heart flutter and not gas/indigestion?

Are you staying well hydrated? Dehydration can cause faster and louder. Flares can make staying hydrated a challenge due to the frequent diarrhea...

Just to throw something else into the mix, I went through a period of heart flutters and only later realized it coincided with peri-menopause and p-m can be a cause. Interestingly I am now taking Mezavant and do not experience any heart flutters and when the flutters occured I was not on Mezavant.

Hi Kat, happy new year!

Were you a long time without any oral/rectal meds?
Get on rectal meds for sure...what were you using in the past?

What is the total dosage of the mezavant...1200? 2400? Do you take it at one time? Split?
