I have been on high dose prednisone for a while and I am facing possible surgery. All the bad outcomes from surgery are so much more likely if you've been on pred within 30 days of the surgery because long term prednisone weakens tissues and prevents healing. Which then lead me to wonder, confirmed by my doctor, that I think my prednisone dependence (keep having to take more and more to stay in remission with it) could be caused by the fact that I've been on high dose pred for so long.
I have been reading that taking vitamin A can help with this side effect from prednisone. 25,000 IU's is what is recommended for 1-2 wks for results. But since Vitamin A is also known to cause inflammation, I was wondering if it is wise to do this supplement for Ulcerative Colitis. Could make my flare worse.
Has anyone taken extra Vitamin A and what happened? What dose?
Thank you.
