Something other than Mesalamine or Entyvio

Has anyone had success with UC meds other than Mesalamine or Entyvio? I can’t tolerate Mesalamine, made my UC much worse but am not ready to dive into the infusion world either. Right now my UC is pretty mild, 1 to 5 BM’s a day but it’s the rectal pain that is killing me, especially after a BM. Also wondering if anyone on this forum takes Zoloft (not a UC med) and your thoughts on that. What a way to live!

I suggest steroid enemas and supps.

Is your pain anal? Hemmies or fissure? Topical anusol hcl would be helpful as well.

Considered immunomodulators (azathioprine/ imuran or 6mp)?

Are you in the U.S.? If so you could try Uceris foam.

My wife's family has a lot of anxiety issues and pretty much all survive day to day thanks to zoloft. Many on the forums have had good experience with wellbutrin and some have said it helped their UC as well. I am in a similar boat as I feel that mesalime causes me unwanted side effects but I am living with it for now. There are a ton of other options but they are either "alternative" or they are stronger meds with their own side effect risks.

Entyvio has been around a bit now and the safety profile is very good, even in comparison to other biologics. The latest research is really showing it to be a great option.

the localized pain is often not a primary UC symptom, but rather secondary to fissures, deep ulceration, or hemorrhoids. I would get careful evaluation.

for mild UC, some manage on anti-inflammatory foods or supplements, and/or rectal meds.
