My experience with Humira

Hi folks,

After really fearing Humira, I got to the end of my rope and started on it 1 1/2 mos. ago. Thought I’d update and let others know how I’ve responded.

First, the injection itself was not as bad as I’d feared. I barely felt the needle. The pumping of the drug into my leg was uncomfortable, but not too painful.

Secondly, no real side effects that I’ve noticed, beyond a little tiredness the day after. I’d been dreading becoming sick with respiratory ailments, as that has been a prob in the past and one’s immune system is a bit compromised on this, but so far so good.

Lastly, my symptoms have gotten much better. I still have urgency, but bm’s are less loose and frequent. Almost no blood now and little mucus.

My main prob is anal pain after a bm—and it’s pretty severe, lasting for hours. I do have hemmies, so... and yes, I’ve tried every cream, plus ice and/or heat packs.

Overall, I’m very pleased. Still on Mesalamine and a cortisone suppository and aim toward a SCD.

I guess anything is possible. I tried to make an appt w a Gastro/anus ? Doc, but they never called back. It feels like smooth, but inflamed hemmies. What would they do to a fissure?

And, I do believe it was you who encouraged me to go on the Humira. Got sick enough to take your advice 😘

I’ve never actually tried a sitz bath. I do use a rice heat pack that helps. Do you put anything in the water?

Having rectal pain after a bowel movement sometimes for hours afterward doesn't sound right to me. I would definitely go back to see my GI for a chat.
