C Diff stool first tested positive, then further testing on same sample said no? Do I re test?

The triage nurse at mayo, who I trust, told me that flagyl rarely works to kill c-diff. You need Vancomycin or dificid (better but really expensive).

I would retest. You don't want to take the chance of having an untreated c-diff infection. If possible, take the sample to a different lab.

Uceris is crazy expensive and there is no generic. Entocort is different.

BTW, when I called to make an appointment with the NP I see, i was told earliest available was the end of September! Sadly there is a shortage of Gastroenterologists at the current time. I also found out that they are not taking new patients at Mayo in many specialties, unless you have one of their preferred insurance providers.

Absolutely request another test.....with culture as to what kind of strain.

What test did you have done? The PCR test is not indicative of a positive infection and most people who have had C diff in the past would have a positive PCR. So the toxin test needs to be positive to confirm C Diff. I had C diff and foul smelling non stop gas/cramps and then liquid neon yellow poo- mixed with blood started. C Diff has a distinctive smell- like barnyard grass. Why did the doc say you don't need to repeat it? If you had a negative pcr and negative toxin test then I say it's not C diff. Please don't start Flagyl on your own- . Also Dificid is what got me out of C diff - Flagyl and Vanco did not work for me.
