I decided to try juicing lately. I usually make a juice in the late afternoon. I've been doing gentle stuff like cucumber, apple, lettuce and celery. Yet I notice it's very laxative. Within a few hours of bedtime I am crapping my butt off. It's not liquid diarrhea but things just get REALLY frequent until my bowels are almost totally empty, even if it's mostly solid stool that comes out. What gives??
I've dried diluting the juice 50/50 with water but no luck. It still causes a laxative thing to happen.
I can't eat raw greens and I thought that juicing would be a good way to get my vegetables in. Cooked veggies just aren't the same.
I have a fruit smoothie in the morning but it doesn't cause this problem, just the veggies. Maybe it's because I add flax fiber to the smoothie but the veggie juice I drink straight?
Any ideas? Any suggestions other than stopping?

Veggie juice is not laxative to my gut but since it is for you then yah stop. If you ever get constipated you know to fix it
.

How about
trying green smoothies instead to get your greens?

I have issues with both cooked and raw veggies and greens. So just like you I went to juicing. Probably for the same reasons. Was concerned about
getting enough healthy foods etc. What I have noticed is that if I stop for a while and then re-start I get the laxative type effect same as you especially if I have a large glass - say 2 cups+. Usually results in D. However for me things settle down over the next few days as if my body adjust somehow.
In the past I have tried the following:
- I tried starting with smaller amounts initially spread over the day. One or two carrots and an apple at first. And I would not drink the whole thing quickly at once. More sip on it over time. This worked pretty good.
- I don't juice the greens that I cannot normally tolerate raw. Spinach and romaine work for me both raw and juiced in moderation. Nothing else seems to. I tried juicing kale a few weeks ago and it didn't go over well at all. Won't be trying that again anytime soon.
- When I started it was literally just apple and carrot juice. The funny thing is I cannot tolerate raw or cooked carrots, so this is an exception for me. It's weird that I can juice them.
- The state of my disease has an effect on what I can and cannot tolerate both raw and juiced. The better I feel the more variety I seem to be able to add without issue.
- I've never tried juicing while in a full flare. My gut says it might not go over well.
Maybe you could try something from the above. Everyone reacts differently though. If you not feeling well or having excessive D then maybe you should wait until you feel a little better and then try again.
Hope something helps your situation.

Celery is considered one of the dirty vegetables pesticide wise. Perhaps try organic if you are not already? I noticed laxative effect with non organic apples.

I did actually notice my body adjusted a bit better after a few days of doing it, but I still had increased frequency.
Mark, your suggestions are good... I need to try consuming less, sip it more over a longer period, and I need to continue diluting 50/50 with water. I tend to drink the juices pretty fast, within 10 minutes. Maybe that's part of the problem.
What are your thoughts on having the juices with meals instead? Like mixing the juices with solid food. I just wonder if doing so would prevent proper absorption.

Yeah that's a really good thought. In thinking about
it a little, before I used to just have juice on its own, but as of late I actually have one during or after a meal.
