Welcome to the forum but sorry you are struggling with bowel issues as we do.
To clarify, do you have an ulcerative colitis diagnosis? Are you currently seeing a gasteroenteroligist-specialist doctor to treat your UC? When was your last colonoscopy or other endocopy and what were the findings (extent, severity, etc.)?
It sounds like you are in denial, stopping your meds, and just putting up with the pain and diarrhea. You should really get a colonoscopy, and try different medications and combinations of medications to find your solution. If asacol HD did not help and was too expensive, then you should've gone back to your doctor and told him/her so. Other more affordable medications like sulfasalazine are available, there are patient copay assistance cards available, and websites like goodrx with discount-coupons that can save you money. There's many different medications beyond asacol HD that can help UC patients: immunomodulators (azathioprine/imuran), biologics (remicade/humira) and others to try.
