This rather small study from University of Chicago contradicts what I have heard in the past. I will take NSAIDS when absolutely necessary and have not had any problems.

The whole NSAIDs thing has bounced around a lot for a while. Given the uncertainty and contradictory nature of the NSAID/IBD/UC research, I'd keep using NSAIDs (COX 1 and COX 2-inhibitors) only occasionally and cautiously. If you suddenly needed daily NSAIDs due to another condition, then I'd go COX-2-inhibitors like Celebrex, which are shown to be safer for our regular use with IBD/UC.
