Air outside the bowel

Hi

I had pain in my bowel which I posted on my previous post.

In short

Had a perforated bowel which healed itself
felt great for 3 weeks went to Scotland
then was getting pains near belly button
went to hospital and they gave me antibiotics and said if there no change after a week come back..which I did
had a CT scan yesterday

Was told this morning I have air trapped outside the bowel and they are gonna give me antibiotics especially designed to treat the bowel area, and discharge me tomorrow, as I drive down to England on Wednesday as I have to see my gastrointestinal doctor on Friday.

Should I be worried, as the pain hasnt stopped will I always have this in future even if it's treatment now...or if the antibiotics even work.

What's the worst case scenario are we looking at here the bowels sealed but the air there

Would I need to have my bowel removed if the pain and air don't go away

I haven't heard of this before. I wish I could offer more advice on it. I'd check with some surgeons and doctors in your area and see what they say.

I doubt you will get much info here. Call your doctor or surgeon to get better answers. I would assume you would have the section of the bowel removed because it is in danger of further perforation or has not fully healed.

well thats it, no mention of air. so something was said verbally, perhaps speculatively, about air - maybe even inside the colon (its called gas). you may have misunderstood. you come here and report you have trapped air outside the colon, but that is not certain.

they gave you antibiotics, perhaps as a precaution since you mentioned pain. it sounds like you pressed for an opinion if this could mean your colon might come out. such an opinion would have been completely worthless because it would be general speculation - and any ongoing issues with UC cannot absolutely preclude colonectomy.

this is what I meant by filtering through your anxieties. You have a chronic condition that sometime leads to colon removal when all treatments fail. Not that often, but sometimes. It really has nothing to do with a prior healed perforation. I sympathize with your fear that you will be unlucky and eventually need colon removal. But, it is not helpful each time you get a pain, or have some change in your UC symptoms, or even have some spread of the UC, if you immediately ask people here if it means your colon is coming out. For one thing, we don't know. But more importantly, there are more essential issues to focus on in the short term.

keep your consultation, try to find out if you do or don't have an infection. Find out if there was air outside your colon, or just speculation about gas in your colon causing pain. Ask how your UC treatment will be monitored, and how decisions about altering treatment will be made (or when).

try to find way to live with the idea that one possible outcome of any UC case is colon removal without becoming obsessed with each change in symptoms meaning you are losing your colon. it does seem the fear and anxiety about the future chance of needing colon removal is actually blocking you from getting proper and full understandings about what is going on in the moment - or what needs to be done in the short term. you are not much help to yourself in this state.

That's what the Dr told me after the ct scan...he said that there was some gas left over from the perforation that not cleared up from before, hence why he gave me antibiotics, and they gave me the same ones again. I did feel a sharp pain last night in mid section of my groin yesterday evening for about 10 secs and now my pain has shifted to there, just don't know why he hasn't put it on the discharge letter.

I'm gonna push to start on Imuran again, should never have come off it has I feared for my sight.
had a great UC time when I was on it from 2013-early 2016, but the attack of the HSV1 virus on my eye I panicked going blind and came off them immediately.

Now that I know so much about my eye... ( can take aciclovir if problems start or can have cornea transplant )

This time I will stay on Imuran forever. ..no matter what

Thanks all for helping so much.....I won't bother you so much but I was looking for hope sometimes and I really have no family at all to talk to and turn to healingWe'll for some reassurement as we all here are on the same boat.
