I just want a diagnosis!

So for the past 11 years I've been diagnosed with IBS-D. This past May the symptoms really ramped up and in August I began having bloody diarrhea. I had a colonoscopy and now I see a gastroenterologist. But no solid diagnosis.

My scope showed non-specific inflammation with slight crypt distortion as well as focal cryptits. In addition there was a patch of inflammation in my ascending colon and my gastro removed an ulcer.

At my follow up, he wanted me to do some testing since the scope could not confirm IBD. I did the usual blood tests and some stool tests. I didn't seem anemic though I've been diagnosed anemic in the past. My sed rate was 31 (normal 1o to 2o), c-reactive protein was 42.5 (normal under 1o) and my calprotectin level was 647 (normal under 2oo).

Physically, I go to the bathroom five to ten times daily and I have the most constant horrible cramping pain. Linzess and Bentyl don't help at all. I don't have bloody stool all the time, but I've had it several times since August.

I guess I just needed to type everything out to people who might understand and ask, do you think this is IBD? My results from all the testing were negative for c diff and other infections. I just want a diagnosis and I'm worried that my gastroenterologist will say it's nothing. I just want answers. It'd be great to finally leave the house without worrying about where the bathrooms are.

Also, I take birth control, effexor, and levothyroxine. I never take nsaids, acetaminophen is the pain reliever of choice in this house haha

This doesn't sound like UC, but it also definitely isn't "just" IBS. It could be mild Crohn's disease.

Is there anything in the results about the terminal ileum? Is this the only colonoscopy you've had?

I recommend talking to the doctor about imaging the small bowel with an MRI, a test called an MR Enterography.

You can always ask to have your biopsy slides sent to another lab for a second opinion. You can always have a another colonoscopy in another 6-months or year, and then see if the signs of an IBD are more vivid and clear. You have some IBD-sounding things but the pathologist was pretty clear it is not an IBD. Not sure if the pathologist is just wrong, or is correct and not an IBD at all.

If the inflammation is not an IBD, then what could it be? It could be an infectious-colitis, a clostridium difficile, etc. There are possible infectious causes, and you can have a stool test to look for those sort of common infections.
