Well, friends, I have almost successfully completed a run for a state house seat while actively having UC. For part of the time I was on Uceris, but after having some bad side effects, I decided to go completely drug-free and while my UC is active, I've managed to do OK. One of the things I cannot stress enough is that by running for office, I was able to advocate for us to other politicians making very important decisions about our medical coverage and care along with many individuals at the door who questioned preexisting condition coverage and also medical marijuana. High drug prices is another area I have talked about. Finally, I was invited to a hospital forum where candidates were asked questions by medical professionals. One of the discussions was that Doctors didn't feel a Medical Marijuana bill should be passed in our state because of the fear it might not really help patients. I was loud and proud to speak up and let them know that for individuals like myself with Ulcerative Colitis, it would be really nice to at least have the opportunity to try it since some have found relief in other countries and states and I cannot use it because it is not allowed. Nobody else said anything even remotely like this within the panel of politicians. If one doesn't have a severe medical condition as we do, it is hard to understand why so many are desperate to try alternative medicines. I urge anyone who has this condition, please consider running for office or at least if you have a platform to advocate, please use it. I'm not saying it has been easy, but I am managing ok and make sure to take it easy when I need to. I avoid doing anything before 9 am and I try not to eat or drink at most functions. Thank you!!!
