Every time I am pregnant my UC flares .

Started on 40mg , been on it for 8 days . Not seeing any improvement... I’m thinking I should increase the dose ...

Any opinions???

40mg is usually enough of a dose of pred, if it's going to work. There are *some* people who respond to 60 better than 40. But if I remember right, studies have shown that for the majority of people, 60 doesn't do much better than 40 does. And 60 has higher side effects without much benefit.

Are you on any mesalamines in addition to the 6mp?

No not on anything right now. I usually respond well to higher doses . I have had this for 17 years . Usually I respond well I’m just thinking I should go up. The dr won’t answer me ! I’m so frustrated !

I had a flare up in 2015 when it took 10 days to see a difference but it was night and day when the pred kicked in. I went from going 8-10 times a day to 2-3 times overnight.
I say give it another day or two before you panic. Are you able to use enemas? I would add those in if you aren’t using them now. Being pregnant changes our bodies so much. Hang in there!

Update : today is 12th day on 40mg prednisone . Today was a terrible day I went soooo many times .. not all were bloody but all watery .

I started uceris foam .. today I’m starting evening and morning .

The GI did not want to up the prednisone just yet and see if the uceris kicks in.
I’m also 11.5 weeks pregnant so it’s not so simple this time as it wasn’t with my two other kids..

Any inputs ?

I’m sorry things are so rough this time around. You are almost out of that first trimester, maybe the big hormone shift will change things for you.
I don’t know if she is on much anymore, but TotesMagotes had a rough go with UC and pregnancy. You might want to look her up and see if you can message her or search her threads. I feel like she ended up using Remicade during her last pregnancy but I could be wrong.

I'd get another stool test for possible infectious, if you are not responding to 40mgs of pred. Just to make sure...

What's your inflammation levels? Any CRP blood tests or FCP stool tests to check for it?

Keeping mom healthy throughout her pregnancy is the best approach to keep your little one healthy. So, if you need more or stronger medications during your pregnancy due to the persistence of this flare then I would not at all hesitate. You certainly want to avoid an early/premature birth due to a bad flare which can cause complications.
