Hi everyone,
I haven't checked into the forum in some time because for the most part my UC has been in remission, which is good news. I had a few flares last year that took me months to recover from. For me, I found VSL3 probiotics and fruit smoothies in the morning with wild blueberries were a great help in addition to my Asacol and Salofalk enemas when I needed them. Food choices also helped. More probiotic yogurt, fruit and veggies, less meat and carbs and smaller meals.
But the reason I wanted to check in again is because at the end of November, I got really sick with some kind of stomach bug that knocked me on by butt for 10 days. First two days were constant vomiting and diarrhea then it transitioned to fever and body aches a few days later. The first few days cleaned by digestive system right out. What I found interesting was that after I recovered, and started to eat bigger meals again, my digestion felt better than it has in years. Formed stools like before I was diagnosed with UC, no left side discomfort and very little gas. Also, I seemed to tolerate more of the foods that gave me problems before.
I expected to maybe fall into another flare due to the sickness, but it seems to have had the opposite effect. I'm not sure if it had something to do with me eating nothing for 3 days and little thereafter as well as drinking lots of Gatorade and water, or if it was because somehow my gut microbiome was purged and repopulated with good bacteria because started taking my probiotics again around day 7 of my sickness.
Either way, I'm feeling good and wanted to see if anyone has had a similar experience.
Take care
