Hi everyone,
My gift for New Years this year was a horrific bought of food poisoning. It went something like this:
On Saturday morning, I went to a crapty diner with friends. I got a western omelette with cheese, and the more I ate it, the more it tasted off. I felt nauseous later during the day, and sure enough, Sunday night around midnight, I was having extremely watery diarrhea, felt super nauseous, dizzy, was running to the bathroom every 30 minutes, and even ended up throwing up a good amount (which is a rarity for me because I hate throwing up and usually try to suppress it if I can.) This lasted a full 24 hours. Definitely the sickest I have been in a VERY, very long time. I also had no fever, just to give all of the information possible.
The next morning I woke up feeling exponentially better. I was still a tiny bit nauseous, but didn't need to use the restroom all morning. Later that night, I tried a bowl of gluten free pasta with a little butter, and ran to the bathroom with explosive watery D. I thought "okay maybe I rushed dairy a little bit too fast."
It is now Friday morning, and I am still have explosive, watery diarrhea. Like there is absolutely no form to it. I have been eating bland foods all week - crackers, rice cakes, toast, rice with chicken broth, mashed potatoes - and literally my stood is complete liquid with no improvement. I'm definitely not going as much as I was during the main food poisoning day, but I literally I feel like I can't function because I can't even eat foods with 0 fibre without exploding, and when I do, it comes on so fast and loud and horrible that there's no way I'd survive a public bathroom.
To top it all off, I had JUST gotten out of a pretty bad 2 month long flare, and was finally feeling like myself again, so this is pretty discouraging. I just left a message at my GI's office letting them know, and I'm sure they'll ask for stool samples (I've had c diff in the past, but it has never presented itself with anything more than some blood in my stool and stomach pain).
I'm just wondering - has anyone experienced food poisoning who has UC? Did it trigger a flare/c diff/ something else? Or do we think that my body is just weak and is still fighting off the infection and I will return to normal after a good chunk of time? I just really feel like I should be having at least more formed diarrhea by now.
