Any women have improved symptoms after a hysterectomy? Or did you flare? I have a hysterectomy scheduled for the beginning of June. I feel like I’m about
to start a flare and do not want to cancel my surgery. I was supposed to have surgery in the fall of 2017 but started a flare then and had to postpone. I had to switch from Humira (after 8 years) to Remicade to get back into somewhat remission for now. I also take imuran and sulfasalazine. I’m hoping the hysterectomy will help my symptoms and finally put me into remission?? Would love to hear if anyone has had any improvement.
Thanks,
Jen
P.S. I feel like I’ve tried everything. I’ve been on Uceris, Mesalamine, foams, enemas, prednisone...

I had a hysterectomy at 39...was flaring mildly before, and it got worse afterward because I had extreme hormone fluctuation.
Hot flashes, flaring and recovery wasn't a cakewalk. I would say that once on HRT....it did level out the ups and downs I had flare-wise with periods.
My meds did work for me, but took a while regarding that flare.
I have flared many times since the hysterectomy.

It has been discussed here in some earlier threads e.g.

by the way, there are other meds you can try, including entyvio and xeljanz.

I just had a hysterectomy in Nov 2018. I kept my ovaries. I was not flaring when I had surgery, nor did I technically “flare” afterwards, but I will warn you that my gut was pretty much a mess for the first 2 months post surgery. The extra space for your intestines, plus your guts laying around all that healing tissue caused a lot of discomfort, diarrhea, and General IBS type stuff. This was a common occurrence on the hystersisters message board that I followed. It did pass. My advice is to also go easy on the pain meds and stool softeners they provide after surgery. My UC was diagnosed at a mild stage and I feel like I’ve been in “remission” since, although I have battled a whole lot of IBS misery so I can’t say the hysterectomy fixed my gut, but the surgery did not technically flare my UC. May be different if you have ovaries removed.
