Blood work came back. CRP is 95 (<5 is normal), white blood cells are high. Thankfully I haven't lost much hemoglobin or ferritin, so perhaps the bleeding isn't as severe as I thought. It always looks like so much more in the toilet. I'm losing weight though, 5-10lbs already.
I started taking 20mg pred as of today, divided into 2 doses. I also might do some movement later, at the gym... very light weight lifting, and stretching. I find that the endorphins can help my flares.
Honestly, it's a crap shoot. I'm really good at managing flares that have been happening for months but I still feel so unskilled at managing ones that are just starting. I've never successfully aborted a flare before it got really bad, but I am still trying to remain hopeful. My natural inclination is always to stop eating, but that's obviously not realistic. I've been eating broths, rice, plain chicken, squash and carrot, etc.
Seeing my MD tomorrow. My GI doc won't see me for 3 weeks. Not sure what he can do anyway, other than recommend more pred or colectomy, since I have failed everything else. And at this point I feel like a scope will just be to say, "Yep, you're flaring."
