I just double-checked, Keith, and the only time the entire article mentioned anything about elbows was mentioning a ridiculous drug company ad:

In the past 20 years, the drugs — which can cost some $40,000 a year — have flooded the market. Ads for several, including Humira and Cosentyx, are fixtures on television, promising improved gastrointestinal symptoms or clearer skin with “sexy elbows.”

There is a company in Canada called Qu Biologics that is trying to "fix" the microbiome instead of just suppressing the immune system. I think they are on second round of trials. I am hoping they have great success!!

Yes, me too! A lot of this kind of research is funded by seed money from government agencies that don't have a profit motive. Sadly a lot of the brightest minds are off making more biologics instead of getting to the cause.

I work in science funded by the government, the pay is crap, the workload and pressure are huge and I've spent the past 12 years bouncing from one temporary contract to the next, forcing me to move cities and countries on numerous occasions. I completely understand those who move to industry. That being said i find it sad that people on here assume that everyone working in those companies wants to rip people off or keep people permanently ill to make money off them. Most people are motivated by improving people's quality of lives.

I think you guys do a good job. I would not want to be a moderator. I like to stay away from this place for long stretches of time when I'm feeling well, lol.

I agree with some who believe another moderator wouldn’t hurt.

I really appreciate all the moderators. They give helpful advice and are so knowledgeable. And they’re calm and rational and unbiased IMO.

The day we were diagnosed with a serious chronic disease all hope/thought of a “normal” life are gone — whether we want to acknowledge it or not. And I’m not saying that in a depressing way but just as a matter of fact. I might have a different perspective because I grew up with a type 1 diabetic father and that’s an ugly disease too. And guess what - there’s no cure even though they’ve studied that for many many years. There’s treatment with insulin but it’s still not a perfect life. I couldn’t even begin to count the number of times my dad was in the hospital.

This disease is bad for us, the medications are bad for us (and our pocketbooks). But that’s just the way it is. We can worry about this medication or that or we can just do the best we can and try to find something that allows us to live the best we can. There’s no wrong or right treatment and I don’t believe there’s a conspiracy to not find a cure. It’s just tough — like diabetes, they know what causes it but they can’t cure it and big pharma isn’t keeping them from finding a cure. ( well they are getting greedy now with the rising price of insulin but that’s another story)

Anyway. I can’t worry about possible side effects. I mean yes every once in awhile I do but I can’t let that dominate my life or my treatment options. I do like to research so I’m not saying don’t do that or post about it — just wanting to caution about letting the fear dominate your treatment options.

I do not care. He is bullying people. And if I was a mod, I'd lock my own thread right now. I didn't think IAC's post was "going after the mods." I heard him say he wished there was more balance between support for alternative versus traditional meds. And I agreed that the risks of biologics are frequently downplayed here, including in this very thread. Does that mean I also was going after the mods? Because i sure wasn't. Every post on Healingwell eventually seems to become about anti-vaxxers...no one even mentioned that here. I have certain people posting here blocked so I only see their posts if someone quotes them. I highly recommend it instead of yelling at people or belittling them.
