Steroids help fight Covid19 complications?

It was reported by newsmax (which I have no idea if it’s a reputable source or not — I’m just offering this as a bit of info) that a man in Brazil was treated with steroids to combat the cytokines storm from the Coronavirus That was destroying his lungs.

I’m just mentioning this because I know there’s been concern that if you are on steroids for a flare it might put you at more risk to Coronavirus.

Smarter minds than mine can probably determine if this is helpful info or not. I’ve been wondering why steroids for a flare would put Us more at risk to contracting the virus vs steroids or immune suppression in beating off the cytokines storm.

Thoughts?

The problem with steroids is they would prevent a cytokine storm, but they would also wreck the ability to clear the infection. I have heard that ICU docs are suppressing the immune system to save people, but I haven't heard what they are using. Highly doubt it is steroids.

In the Brazil case they used methylprednisolone. Said they’d read a study of it being used in China.

Well I hope it helps. Any tools the doctors can have at their disposal is great. The medical director at my wife's employer is still telling all the providers to avoid steroids when possible, although none of them are treating Covid patients once they get so sick they might need it. That is something for the ICU docs.
There seems to be different ways to approach covid, first to avoid catching it, second to treat it when you first get it, and lastly when you get pneumonia and ARDS from it.

I wouldn't want to use steroids personally....if you look at the data on covidibd.org, steroid use is associated with the highest rate of hospitalization and death compared with all the other drugs

Steroids are used for fighting pneumonia but they also make you susceptible to pneumonia. If you're on steroids you're considered immune suppressed.
