Starting immunosuppressants

I've been flaring since Nov. I'm currently on 4 week prednisone taper, oral mesalamine which I've been on for 16 years, and just started azathioprine. I have been quite stressed about taking these medications. This is the first time I've been on immunosuppressants of any kind for my UC. I also work in healthcare. I asked to be placed on medical leave while on prednisone, but will have to return to work in 2 weeks. I'm not sure how different life will be for me going forward. I'm not sure if I will need to find a position with limited patient contact. In my current position, I have patient contact all day long. I typically don't get viruses and if I do, it's almost always mild. I'm concerned this will change. I'm concerned about working in the garden and changing the litter box. Stuff I never had to think about before. I feel like maybe I'm overreacting. I don't know. Of course, COVID-19 adds fuel to the fire.

How have your lives changed since starting immunosuppressants? Do you find yourself getting sick more often? How do you deal with the anxiety?

FWIW, I am planning on talking with a therapist about my anxiety.

I know everyone is a bit worried when starting a new class of medicine, myself included. However, we've had posters who take immunosuppressive meds and work as teachers of small children, are heathcare workers, etc. They do just fine. I've been on immunosuppressive meds since 2012 and have not been any more sick than my normal. On average, I get one cold per year. It lasts a couple days longer than before I started these meds and symptoms a bit harsher. Not a biggie at all.
