Did your son taper the enemas down to the suppositories or just go off the enemas straight to the suppositories?
What he could do is add an enema twice a week for a larger dosage boost of mesalamine and use the suppositories between. I, personally, would go back on the enemas nightly to get through the constipation phase and mild inflammation yet to deal with. Then taper to the suppositories.
It took me years to figure out mild symptoms of healing during a flare would equal the opposite as the start of a flare.
There are always the options for your son to increase if his symptoms increase, such as worse constipation or the more obvious of what he's had in the past.
