Prednisone messes with the hypothalamic-adrenal-pituitary axis (HPA axis) through suppression. For every month you were on prednisone it will take a month for your hormone system to recover, or so they say. I have personally found it takes longer.
The depression is unlikely related to your inflammation status, even though inflammation has been linked to depression. I say that because it sounds like your depression symptoms started once you got off prednisone, which is very normal. If you google prednisone tapers and withdrawal symptoms, anxiety and depression are on that list.
Prednisone is an evil but necessary rescue drug. It causes widespread bodily imbalance as it targets inflammation. It takes time to recover from that. A mineral rich diet will help because minerals drive the hormone system and minerals are what prednisone deprives the body of. Examples of important minerals that drive hormone conversions are: magnesium, boron, selenium and zinc. Best to get these from food especially the last 3, but mag should be taken as a supplement since most diets are deficient in it. Good luck!
