Has anyone’s doctors suggested rx changes due to Phthalates (plastics) in Asacol?

I haven't seen anyone on here talk about
this. Where did you hear this from?

No. It would be the coating and minimally absorbed I would think. What are the options offered to you?

Personally, it's not something I would give second thought to.

Majority of mesalamines have a MMX plastic, polymer coating used for the delayed release effect of the med.
If it concerns you, go to the plastic-free protomesalamines (sulfasalazine, balsalazide disodium) which are more complex molecules that cut bacteria cleave into mesalamine and a byproduct. There's no red/brown/orange coating on those. Most are chalk white, yellowish in color.

thanks @ipoop
Had I just been starting on this journey I would probably consider plastic-free but 30 yrs later doesn’t really much sense to be

I thought Asacol was pulled off the market (ostensibly due to the phthalates) and the manufacturer made a new drug, Delzicol, virtually identical without the phthalates, which in a happy coincidence got them another 20 years of patent exclusivity? (no generics possible)
I would suggest you use generic Lialda in any case as it's cheaper, generic, takes fewer pills and I don't think it has phthalates.

Not sure where you are located, but my understanding is that the Canadian version of Asacol has phthalates (and therefore should not be used during pregnancy), but the American formulation has changed and no longer contains phthalates. Not sure if it now goes by a different name, as someone above suggested.
