That is a very good article, with many informative additional links.

I've had UC for about 45 years, and developed prostate cancer about 5 years ago. While there may be a link, the odds of prostate cancer increase dramatically with age.

Get a PSA check every year, with your annual physical, starting at age 45, more more than 50. The trend line is critical.

There are a lot worse illnesses than IBD, in my experience. Hang tough, Hambo.

Ugh, I read an article on IBD and cancer. Apparently, UC and IBD overall increase the likelihood of several other cancers, including colon, bowel cancers, melanoma and lymphoma. Some of the increased risk is due to chronic inflammation as well as use of immune suppressing meds. Cancer treatments also flare up UC. Lifespan for UC is the same as general population and disability rates are relatively lower than other illnesses.

Important to go to all checkups/screenings, eat lots of anti-cancer/anti-inflammatory foods, exercise, and avoid excessive amts of sun. Having this illness has definitely made me more health conscious and I eat way healthier than I would have otherwise.
