Guys , been diagnosed with UC for about 3 weeks now. Have been on Mesalamine and Prednisone for the entire duration of me being out the hospital. Still haven’t seen a semi decent looking stool yet. Everything comes out like liquid with little shreds in it. Please excuse the visual. What the heck am I doing wrong and how so I get back to having some semi decent looking stools?

It will takes quite a while. What dosage of pred are you on and what's the plan regarding tapering?
Have you improved at all?

You can call your GI and ask if you can also be prescribed mesalamine rectal meds as well.

Right now I’m on 40 mg of Pred once a day, and have never even heard of the term “tapering”. How would the rectal mesalamine benefit me over the oral meds?

It get to where it needs to be faster.

Hope your on 4.8 grams of Mesalamine daily.

Be patient. You should start seeing results soon.

gacel...lots of info on here and internet about rectal meds...consider UC starts at the rectum and oral mesalamine doesn't stay in rectum to treat.
You're still early in treatment, but still ask for them.

Did your doctor just put you on prednisone 40mg without a plan? Are you supposed to check in, have another appt...etc?

I suggest you start a list of questions to ask your GI...being proactive in your care and treatment is most helpful.
