Is there a safe drug to take for osteoarthritis with ulcerative colitis? I've just been diagnosed with arthritis of my wrists, hands, fingers, etc. Primary care physician told me I could take prednisone...I told her not if I could avoid it. She told me I shouldn't take naproxen sodium, or aspirin....or any other anti-inflamatory drug. She suggested tylenol, which I've been taking with very little relief...also Voltran ointment. Anyone have any idea of something safe for the arthritis pain? I've also been drinking ginger root tea from time to time over the years...as an anti-inflamatory; but not it's not helping much either.

I have OA in my knees and use Voltaren daily. It's a topical NSAID, but it hasn't affected my UC. Not sure about
using it on your hands though because you would be washing it off every time you washed your hands. Give it a try and see if it helps ... it works wonders for me. I also use arthritis strength tylenol -- it's 650 mg and works a lot better that the 500 mg extra strength.

aza is more for *inflammatory* arthritis, not for degenerative osteoarthritis.

I use a cbt ointment on my hands. I don’t have major arthritis tho. But it does seem to help (if it’s legal in your area that is)

Thank you, all. I'll give them all a good try. Be safe and stay well everyone.

Arthritis in my hands feet & back here and keeping moving is my best medicine - too sedentary and more pain ... heating pad does wonders on my lumbar osteoarthritis when it acts up ... water exercise suppose to be beneficial too but haven’t attempted this yet

It is BIG time, for my wife, who does it every other day. Try it, you may be very surprised.
