UC for dummies. Question number 543

Why does it take so long for some of these drugs to kick in?

I’m on Xeljanz 10 mg morning and night right now. Started it 7/3/21.
People on the forum have said for many it takes four months before they see remission.

I remember when I first got UC. I got on Humira. 2016.
I remember specifically the doctor saying it takes 8 weeks.
It took almost exactly 8 weeks. Then. Wham. Remission.

So. Can someone explain this to me. Why does it take so long for some of these drugs to kick in for “us”?

Well. When I started xeljanz my rectum was full of big yellow ulcers. Saw them with my own eyes during an unsedated rectoscopy *shudder*. That kind of damage can't heal overnight. First you have to switch off the immune attack, then your gut has the time and space to heal. Think of how long it can take a deep wound to heal on your skin. And then imagine something like that going on in your gut.

I don't know either. It can be a very long time to suffer. Prednisone works so quickly.
