Does anyone feel that their joint issues with UC are less to do with the immune system randomly picking on a joint and more to do with day-to-day or sports or work injuries that do not heal properly due to an out-of-whack immune system and that would heal properly with those with no immune issues?

I have no idea; however, I awoke a while back with severe pain in wrists and hands. Doctor did x-rays and told me I have osteo arthritis. Surely there is an explanation of why it would strike so suddenly!?

Part of a larger get out clause with doctors! OA refers to degeneration changes at the articular level but lots of people will technically have some OA and be completely asymptomatic. That absolutely does not mean that your joint issue is (purely) OA related. Rafa Nadal and Tiger Woods have one major titles with OA in their ankles, knees and back.

my hands give me the most grief, and with the exception of a dislocated ring finger in junior high, they haven/t been injured as much as other parts of my body -

I agree with that theory. I think that the way that some of the meds suppress inflammation and some of the vitamins and supplements we take to help reduce also end up not allowing inflammation where it's needed to repair out joints. I okay a lot.of sport and suffer from very slow healing now due to anti inflammatorys I take. I'm better not taking so many and upping my veg intake ibd aid style I've found.

My left wrist is shot. I wondered if it could have been an injury on it that precipitated the degeneration. (I wondered but wasn’t sure). My right wrist has begun to hurt when it’s bent either way while stressing it. I am absolutely sure the right wrist was never injured. It has just began to hurt of it’s own accord.

I am 85% certain the wrists issues are due to either the Humira or the UC. I am not sure which. What I do know is had I not had UC and been put on Humira…both of my wrists would not have gone out on me. It is absolutely systematic.

The fact that my right wrist is degenerating without trauma tells me it is caused by UC. It’s not “slow to heal”.…it’s…….”something is causing this in the first place”.

I don’t expect either one to heal. Cortisone shots take almost all of the pain away. Cortisone shots do not make them stronger.

IBD arthritis and IBD arthralgias are not degenerative. If you have degeneration in your joints then this is from OA or possibly an independent inflammatory arthritis co-existing. And you could also have co-morbidities in your wrist with OA and IBD arthritis both playing a part. But you will not get joint destruction from the IBD element.
