FlowersGal, yes it is often prescribed after gallbladder removal. The bile acids attach to it, usually fatty foods are often the culprit. My SIL was put on it right after she had her gallbladder taken out, everything just shot right through her.
I was prescribed it for IBS-D, a lot of us in the crohns forum took it.
He can always ask his pcp. If for some reason he gets told no, have him take Imodium. To this day I try to keep Imodium on hand at all times.
