I had elective Total Colectomy surgery 24 years ago at the age of 32. It was a 1-step operation. Since then I can recall suffering from a lower back pain that has gotten progressively worse over the years.
Let me explain... The back pain is most prevalent at night when sleeping. I wake up at a very early hour in the morning with horrible aching pressure on my lower back. The pressure is so intense and aches so bad that I have to go from laying on my back to my side. Some periods of days or weeks seem to be much worse than others. During these times, the pain tends to linger into the daytime with stiffness and soreness. Other periods of time it is less frustrating. Previous MRIs have shown my lumbar spine has some displacement issues and possible contact with nerves. I am currently going through a terribly painful and uncomfortable stretch of time. This is partly because of a long drive to relocate - over 2,000 miles. During these really tough times, driving is extremely uncomfortable.
I don't know what to do. All the doctors I have seen in the past have been unable to provide any relief plan. When travelling and sleeping on a foreign bed, it often only makes matters worse...
The pain never extends to my legs, upper back, or elsewhere. It is always in the lower back region. It also seems to be centralized as I can't seem to notice any particular side that is worse. It is a chronic recurring achy / pressure lower back pain that always keeps coming back again and again.
Can anyone identify with this type of thing with your own back issues, total colectomy or not? I am extremely frustrated as lately it has been really interfering with my day-to-day life.
