UC only affecting rectum and cecum?

Had 3 bouts of diarrhea in June. Resolved on its own. Calprotectin over 4000. Just had colonoscopy on Monday. I’ve only previously had proctitis. No active inflammation seen in rectum but mild inflammation in cecum. The doctor said it was the size of two thumbnails and very mild. The biopsy came back with “Active chronic colitis. Clinical correlation recommended”. Why would a UC patient only have inflammation at those two points? Could I actually have crohns? He didn’t send any medication in for me. I have a follow up in two weeks. What should I advocate for in terms of testing and medication? Does this warrant a short term of prednisone or just regular, continuous meds like mesalamine?

They found very patchy active colitis all over including the cecum, on my first scope 25 years ago. Every follow up scope ( 7-8 of them ) only showed active disease from rectum up 42 cm. So this could be very common among new diagnosis. The first maintenance drug (Asacol ), healed me pretty quickly, because I was symptom free for about 15 years.
