What is the difference between a PFO and ASA?

Hi everyone,
My echo listed both a pfo and asa (with right to left shunting) but the wording was confusing, it almost sounded like the same thing?? What is the difference between the two? I don’t see a cardiologist for at least a month, can anyone clear this up?

It also mentioned a mildly dialated aortic root with 60% diastolic filling of left ventricular, are they all related? Meaning, is one issue causing the other issues?

I am only 40 but have been bedridden with a mystery illness for three years. I didn’t think my sickness would be related to my heart but I guess I will finally find out one way or another soon.

Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you kindly.

Hi Nikorah, none of us are drs here so we cannot really get into that much detail on testing. More than likely if any of us attempted to we would be giving you bad & incorrect information. That certainly would be of no benefit to you at all. I know the waiting is terrible, but you need all of this explained by your dr, he is the expert, not us.

In the meantime I suggest you stay off of Dr. Google looking things up. He is rarely right & just causes us too much unneeded stress. Once the dr makes a diagnosis, then look on sites such as the Mayo Clinic or John Hopkins & read. These are reputable sites & informative.

What is this forum for if we can’t ask questions? I am pretty sure there are lay people out there that know the answer, there is just not enough reading this forum.

I agree with Susie, the questions you are asking are best directed to your cardiologist.
