Hi everyone
I usually post over in the fibromyalgia section but I wanted to ask a few questions about
my cholesterol labs.
I have had my cholesterol checked once a year or every other year and go through lab corp. Last year my labs were as follows (fasting) Tot chol. 152, tri 101, hdl 40, ldl 92, chol/hdl ratio 4. I am 43 and I do not take any medicines other than muscle relaxer, I do not smoke or drink.
Now my question is, I took another blood test a few weeks ago for insurance reasons, non fasting. I do not know the lab company at all. Results are Tot chol. 184, hdl 44.4, ldl 95, tri 223. Now the lab normal values from the two labs are totally different. I have ALWAYS had a decent cholesterol level. I don't know what to think. Should I recheck with my doctor since it has been a year? I don't know if I trust this lab company that the insurance uses. Do you think my panel is okay? and would a cholesterol level jump up that high in one year if I haven't changed anything?
One more question, sorry :)
My father had a bad heart. He died at the age of 52 from a second heart attack. BUT he didn't take care of himself. He was a chain smoker since he was a teen, alcoholic and loved fried foods. My mother on the other hand is 79 and has not had any heart disease.
Am I at risk for heart attack, or since my father did not take care of himself did that play a major factor in his heart condition? I'm somewhat worried about
his history. I have 2 older sisters, 50's and 60's with no heart disease. He passed away in 84.
Thanks for your help!!
