My 16 year old brother has been diagnosed with PVC's about 6 months ago and I am looking for some answers due to PCP not providing much information and even admitting to not have much knowledge on the condition which is perfectly fine, but its difficult believing the doctor that everything is fine and normal after hearing him say he doesn't have much knowledge and input on the condition.
Some background, My brother had an operation done about 5-6 years ago to remove some extra tissue that was blocking electrical signals in his heart that was causing supraventricular tachycardia. After the procedure was done and that skin was removed things went to normal an there were no more episodes of SVT.
5 months ago he had a visit with a cardiologist and they have a monitor on him for 24 hours and the results came back that his PVC's are at 18%. He is very healthy and has been going to the gym for the last 2 years and gets a lot of exercise, more than the average person his age. blood tests come back normal and his diet is not the healthiest and could be better but we are working on improving it.
My question is, are there any things we should do that can help him minimize these PVC's? He usually gets them to where he notices it around once a day to once every 2 days or so without any known triggers.
I have done some research and wanted to see if anyone knows of any ways to lessen them. Also, is this something that can be reversed and does it get worse as he gets older and what other complications if any can arrise from this condition seeing that it is most likely linked to the SVT operation.
Also, forgot to add, he has completely stopped all intake of any form of caffeine, the only caffeinated thing in his diet is tea once or twice a week and that is decaffeinated.
Thank you, and I am asking these questions here because the doctors at kaiser were not fully able to answer them.
