I had my scope while most of you were fast asleep. Doctor said LES was fine, no hernia, no inflammation at all. I always try really, really hard to be positive (and it usually comes easily for me), but I don't think I've ever been this depressed in my life. I feel like I'm just back to the drawing board. I have to wait a few weeks for the histology to come back but beyond that, I'm just terrified that this is going to be a lifelong condition that I just have to tolerate.

And now, something positive: The nurse who was at my head held my hand the entire time, and I was squeezing it very hard. That's all I focused on. I pray that I can comfort someone like that someday.

I think all that news is positive anyway. I mean, no esophageal damage is a good thing, right? I can see how its back to the drawing board...I am in the same boat. But I'd say this isn't all negative...

Good, your G-scopy is over now! Now you know there is no big/bad damages...thank God!

I have understood, this is quite typical and there are many patients like you, suffering from heartburn and other GER-symptoms but nothing was found after the scope.

I do hope, everything will be ok with your biopsies, thumbs up!

And now...how does this continue?...you will take your ppi-meds...? more exams...? a new date with your doctor...?

My dear friends,

I have much to be thankful for. I have had a very low week where I have been feeling bad and depressed about things, but no more. Without GERD, I would never have lost 55 pounds, I might never have started exercising regularly, and I would never have made such good friends as I have here. I am so incredibly touched that you have thought of me. I think of you all very often, so please know it is a mutual feeling. With the bad, comes the good.

So, yes, the scope was normal and I am through it. I am definitely thankful that there is no cancer or any life-threatening diseases found. Also, the scope took literally 3 minutes. I couldn't believe it was so quick!

The GI doc said it would take about a month for my histology to come back, so until then, I will work on losing more weight (I have only 10 lbs to go before I am in the BMI 'normal' range), I will document every bite of food that goes in my mouth, and I will prepare my case for needing further treatment.

I think what I need most is an attitude adjustment. I am alive and have a community of friends who care about me and whom I care about. That's worth so much to me. You are ALL amazing people.

It's all about "Eye of the Tiger" from here on out. Grrr!

I have love for all of you :)

WOW - what a great weight loss.  I love your attitude and remember it is ok to have down times as long as you work at getting back up which you do so very well. (applause, applause).

Knowing you is a pleasure and and honor. 

Jot down what makes you happy and what keeps you unhappy. ... Let your affirmation become your own sacred mantra and a protection against negative thoughts.  This works for me sometimes but I am going to work harder on this one.

most excellent that your scoping went so well!

i feel strongly that your histology will come back with good news as well, you are young and strong and the odds are greatly in your favor

lets keep thinking good thoughts as you know, it matters!

Hi Ashley,

Glad to hear things went well with your endoscopy!  I'm trying to remember...were you on PPIs?  I commend you on your weight loss, and on your journaling what you eat and the reaction. 

It is very true that you can suffer from very uncomfortable reflux and GI issues, and still have a clean bill of health regarding your endoscopy results.
