I hated cipro! I can't begin to count how many bags of that stuff I had last year. Seems like everytime I had to go to the hospital they started cipro right away. seems a tear in the esophagus can cause bad infections.

those little ones sure like to share everything! Actually my birthday is today, same as Martin Luther King's.

I was worried I would have stomach problems with all that rich buttery seafood I ate last night, but all is well. Guess that's another hurdle crossed.

Too all....Bea sent me a birthday wish on facebook and wanted me to tell everyone hello.

Bill, **Happy Birthday!!** It just ticked over to midnight here. My birthday is on Wednesday, so lots of well wishes to my fellow Capricorn.

Joy, I hope you're feeling better soon. Kidney infections are no fun, and with your added complications, I'm hoping it goes quickly.

Denise, I couldn't agree more with your praise about Kitt. She's awesome. As are you, and all the rest on this site who give help and support to others out of the goodness of their heart.

Things are going well! We have lots of snow now, and at night it's so quiet, sparkly and peaceful. Very serene. School is picking up and we'll be learning some procedures this semester, and I am so thrilled! It's really the first real nursing class we've had. I have waited to do this for so long and now it's happening. I'm will also continue to study Finnish and Swedish - getting better at both every day! I'm telling you all, I would NEVER have imagined I'd be saying that sentence. Ah, the life of twists and turns :)

My stomach is doing pretty well, little episodes here and there but no actual heartburn. I go for an ultrasound on Tuesday.

I am excited but dreading going home to California in 4 odd months... I left behind a lot of friends who go out to bars and they're all saying they can't wait for me to come so we can party. I have no idea how to break it to all these people (who were great friends of mine) that I can't participate in something that used to be a cornerstone of our friendship. It's almost kind of lonely, if that makes sense? Maybe that's not healthy, but it's who I was 2 years ago, and it's strange to come back such a changed person.

It's now Monday there, Correct? That's the day after my Birthday. Mine's on the 15th. Thank you though! I am officially 21 with 20 years experience!

As for the partying when you get home, go out and just let them know you can't partake in the drinking as you used to. You would make a great designated driver though. Some places give DD's free sodas or whatever.

Bill, It's Monday 16th here in New Zealand so technically it's tomorrow for you so I would like to wish you a very happy belated birthday for yesterday even though you will get this greeting today. Confused.... so am I anyway I hope it was good to you. Very pleasing to see that you were able to partake in a seafood feast without any repercussions. I hope you got a really woolly hat for your birthday to ward off any more ear infections from being out on the tractor. Look after yourself young man.

Ashley, Happy birthday for Wednesday. I hope you have a great day & good luck with your studies. You will make an excellent nurse. Dont stress to much about returning home. If they truly are great friends I'm sure they will understand & support you in trying to stay well.

Denise, Joy, Kitt & Sandi, In 2012 I wish you good health (no more head colds, kidney infections or heart problems please), happiness & good times spent with friends & family.

Lynda update

Its been a very busy, stressful time for my family over the past 6 weeks. Had a few worries with my Mum who was diagnosed with lung cancer in early December. She had two surgeries to remove her right lung plus chemo. Dad took it hard as well & got very depressed so he needed lots of TLC as well (they have been married 58 years) but I'm pleased to say they are both doing extremely well now.

I am now 6 1/2 months post op. Eating most things without bother & starting to regain some of the 40+lbs lost (much happiness from the dietician). Had a checkup with my surgeon last week after I tripped at work & had a fall but all is good, no damage & every thing is intact as it should be so he has signed my care back to my GP. I know I will continue healing over the next 6 months but I feel good in myself now so will be better able to handle any little set backs that may arise.

DENISE.. so sorry to hear that you succumbed to the dreaded "shared cold". It seems like those little ones just love to share everything they have with their Gramma and Granpas... but as they say.. this too shall pass. I am hoping that it stays in your head and doesn't slide on down to the lungs. Take care of your self and stay warm...I may be pushing it but I am going to say it anyway.. I have not had one instance of a sinus issue or cold or upper respiratory since I had my surgery..knock on wood...
My daughter informed me that my granddaughter, Abby, 3 years old, says the word beautiful exactly the same as my Mama used to say it... Abby was born in 2008, we lost Mama in 2005. But I just told her that Mama was whispering in Abby's ear and that is why she says it just like Mama did... Just a bit of sentiment... smurf smurf smurf

JOY.. I am sorry to hear that you have been having problems with your kidneys.. that is no fun.. and I do hope that the doc gets all of your meds adjusted so that you have some peace... it is a shame that the docs can't just wiggle their nose and make you feel better instead of having to try this and adjust that.. sometimes you just feel like a lab experiment.. but, in the end you feel better hopefully.. hang in there friend.. smilewinkgrin wink tongue

LYNDA.. so pleased to hear that your recovery is continuing to go well. I am also happy to hear that your Mum and Dad are doing so well also. Cherish them as long as you can... Thank you for the good wishes for the coming year.. I too wish you health, happiness and prosperity for the new year!!!

Wow, the Gang is all here and we have made it to January 16th - that is a good thing. cool   cool    cool  

I am waving to all of you,  Denise, Bill, Joy, Sandy, Ashley, Liz, MMM and anyone I missed - can you see me wave at you nono ?? OK so it is not the best wave but that is my Prom Queen wave.  LOL. 

Bill congrats on your daughter's success.  Isn't it grand how proud we are of our children ?  I have a habit of "running at the mouth" about my kids accomplishments that I am sure people tire of quickly and I must monitor myself as I think to myself I am bragging here......... Everyone has wonderful children and we are lucky when we are blessed with Grandchildren.  If we don't have children we have nieces and nephews, or youngsters that are close to our heart.  Life is good.

The last 4 days have been a bit of a pain literally as I think I had a partial bowel obstruction that is finally getting better.  Oh the pain.....so I have been staying pretty much to myself here at home.

Sandi,  Yes soul mate friends,  how I would love that.  I need friends.  I ran into a friend from work when I was at the store today.  She invited me to a party at her home for the old nurses - WHAT - I am in the old nurse category ?  turn

Liz,  Get that scope done.  My hubby has Crohns Disease and he is usually prescribed Percocet or Percodan when he needs pain meds. 

Joy,  I am sorry to read you are having kidney problems.  I must tell you I see your posts in other forums and you always know just what to say to members.  Keep it up as you are appreciated.  

Triple M - thinking back I believe I had more problems with my GERD when I was going through menopause otherwise it did not slow me down one bit.  I was very lucky.

Ashley,  A birthday for you on Wednesday - yum, more cake.

Denise,  my dear friend,  I am always in awe of all the words of wisdom you and the other members here have for the forum members. I remember the first message I received from you letting me know that Janice was posting in one of the other forums.  All I could think of was how thoughtful and kind you were to let me know. You have gone on to continue to show your caring and loving ways here in the forum and I know you are admired by so many. 

To all,  it feels like the forum is growing all the time as more people are dx with GERD thanks to Drs. recognizing the problems and people advocating for themselves.  The support and sharing in the forum helps so many -  not only the members but the public that come here to read and to learn about GERD/Heartburn.  I know 2012 is going to be a busy year for each of us.

"Evolution of Gastro-oesophageal Reflux Disease Over 5 Years Under Routine Medical Care" - I haven't combed through the whole thing, but it seems generally reassuring and I think it's a good one to refer people too. Many people seem to become fixated on the idea of getting worse, without evidence that they are getting worse, so it's good to have a big study (6000 patients) showing what the typical course of events is. I know lots of us forum users are the ones that fall by the wayside of the "typical course", but I think this is a good one to have in hand to reassure new posters with?

Finally Friday - oops I forgot I am retired so that no longer is my mantra for Fridays. 

A business man got on an elevator in a building. When he entered the elevator, there was a blonde already inside and she greeted him by saying, "T-G-I-F"
He smiled at her and replied, "S-H-I-T"
She looked at him, puzzled, and said, "T-G-I-F" again.
He acknowledged her remark again by answering, "S-H-I-T."

Thanks for the link and I will read it  shortly.   I like your new care plan and I agree that worrying about the "what ifs?" constantly takes away from our quality of life.

 

Sandi,  I am feeling much better then last week at this time so life is good. My hubby sat me down yesterday and reminded me to quit worrying about everything and I do mean everything.  I had fallen back into the pattern of worrying about worrying.  Oh my the merry-go-round is a nasty ride.

 

My daughter and granddaughters are heading out here shortly to drive to Des Moines, Iowa for a dog show and it is snowing here.  South of us where she is heading the snow is heavier but I trust that they will be fine and I know I cannot package them all in bubble wrap .  They are taking 6 Boston Terriers to the show this week-end.  :-)

 

To everyone - Love the jokes and perhaps we should take this show on the road.  smhair

Thanks for the advice on the ankle scope and pain meds. I've only ever had one surgery though and those pain meds make me coocco for cocoa puffs :) Hopefully I won't have to be on them for long as it sounds like a simple surgery. The thought of having surgery period just freaks me out. The whole possibility of a staph infection is daunting and I hate not exercising. Oh well supposedly this will enable me to run without aching pain afterward. I keep waiting for "the perfect time" to do it...after the holidays, after this, before that...uhg is there really ever a "good" time for surgery? Guess I'll have to beg my mommy to come and help me with the kids for a week or so. Looks like I'll be sleeping on the couch unless my husband wants to carry me up our stairs to our room ;)

How is everyone else?

Seems like there have been a lot of folks posting on here after having their Nissen. Must be the time to get them done. I'd rather have a surgery in the winter and rehab before summer gets here so that you can go out and enjoy the good weather when it comes.

Hey Liz,

Your very welcome.  I was scheduled to have surgery on my Thumb in  2007 however I was dx with pneumonia 2 days before surgery so I had to cancel.  You got it, I still have not rescheduled.  As I would have to be in a cast for 6-8 weeks I have not found the right time to commit to this and yeah it is scary. I have osteoarthritis with bone on bone at the base of my right thumb.  smhair

I know you will do well and I have had foot surgery so in reality I am just not feeling I need the thumb surgery as I have made it this far so we will see what the future brings.

I've been struggling with this darn head cold, and just don't have any energy.  I've been reading your threads and are thinking about each and every one of you, and wishing you well!

Ashley, sorry I missed your birthday on Wednesday!

MMM, here's wishing you a happy birthday this Wednesday!  My brother's birthday was on the 20th.  My mom's was on the 22nd, and I have always had a heck of a time remembering which is which!

I visited a new GI doc...thought it was time for my colonoscopy screening, but I jumped the gun.  I've got a couple years to wait!  Go figure.  Anyway, we moved to a new area and I didn't have a GI doc, so it's a good thing to make connections.  I'm thinking about starting a new thread about my experience.  It was kind of interesting to hear his responses to my experiences.  I already have a thick folder/record because I had all my other docs send my records.  That's never a good sign, is it!

Anyway, I'm just too tired to respond to all of you individually...Just know I appreciate all your kind words and wishes, and hope all is well with each and every one of you!

a belated happy birthday wish to Ashley and Bill

things have been pretty crazy here

all last week we were warned that the south puget sound would get the snow storm of the half century

few, myself included believed it..but now we do

we have been 4 nights without electricity

the first night was before the storm...somebody lost control on a icy road one block over and took out a major transformer

then the snow started...yeah seattle got six inches, big deal, a lot for them... and hey, they got the news

but down here in the olympia area we got 12 to 16 inches in one night...very unusual for these parts

but hey snow....?! ,no big deal, i grew up in the great lakes region, we know snow

but the next night the ice storm hit..the air temp at ground level was about 28 degrees while rain , lots of rain fell from the sky

huge 150 foot douglas fir trees started crashing down as the snow in the boughs became ladened with freezing rain

this went on for 24 hours..our yard and the entire county, is a mess, almost half of our trees especially in the orchard are snapped in half...very sad

the entire county is a disaster area

at one point half the country and state roads were un-passable because fallen trees blocked both lanes

my wife and i and one daughter are getting by with the wood stove, propane camping stove and a small 2000 watt portable generator which we run once a day to power up the refrigerator and recharge nicad batteries for the led flashlights and head lamps

we are ok because this is a hiking and camping family...but it stopped being fun more than a day ago

no, the generator wont power the well, but before it went down we pumped 50 gallons into a storage tank..when that gets low things get real ugly

i guess this is a test

4 days after the storm 200 thousand are still without power
