Sterile Strips - Post Surgery

Is it natural for your sterile strip sites to get a little itchy? Not real itchy but slightly?

I am about 7 days post op.

I don't think they are infected or anything like that but just wanted to see if it was normal.

Also, about when did your sterile strips come off? Did it fall off naturally?

Hi Max,
In my experience, itching=healing. If everything looks good I wouldn't worry. Of course some of us are sensitive to adhesive, but if that was the culprit I'd expect redness and rashiness around the site.

The strips are expected to come off on their own. You can carefully trim the ends as they come loose. Mine stayed on long enough that my PCP removed them. Be careful not to pull them off too soon.

Max,

I agree with Denise. A little bit of itching occurs with healing. Bad signs would be pronounced redness or raised red bumps. Mine stayed on until my 2 week check-up. Dr. took them off during appointment. Hope all is well with you.

Mine itched like crazy! They were a different type though, it was a clear glue that kept it closed. Had to really hold back from scratching.
