Good morning, I have a camera thing down my throat! And they said I ave hiatal hernia and reflux is clearly visible, then I had the ph testing and monogram(what ever it is called)! The ph testing showed no reflux, but the esophageal testing showed that it doesn't work correctly above my hernia, so I have got to have a barium swallow and stomach emptying done, what I want to no what is the symptoms this can cause me? I have sooooooooo many symptoms and want to no if it's this what is causing them? Please please get back to me I have bad anxiety and don't know how long I can keep this up for to be honest xxxx thankyou again kerry xxxx

Dear Kerry,

Don't worry about the barium swallow. That's all it is. You swallow some sweetened barium mixture while they take pictures (x-rays). Not painful, not invasive. It's a good test and will give the answers to whether your esophagus and stomach are working.

Maybe your regular doctor could help you out with something for anxiety, but don't take it before the test. It could affect the results!

PS, after the barium test, and I mean as soon as reasonably possible, drink a lot of anything. Water, tea, coffee. I even take a good dose of Miralax. The barium can clog you and your bathroom plumbing up.

I wish the barium swallow showed my stomach.

It sounds like you're doing the right things and you're getting to the bottom of it. The barium swallow is a breeze.

Hopefully you'll have a bowel movement that day or the next day. Don't let the white stool alarm you.

On the testing it showed that my esophagus isn't working properly, I'm now getting stomach cramps :--(.
