Three years ago I had an endoscopy due to severe chest pain like a heart attack that wouldn't go away. It took doctors a long time to figure out that it may be a hernia and reflux.
The endoscopy from three years ago said I had a hernia which was likely causing Gerd. I see a gastro specialist now. I just found out that my esophagus was a "mess". When I asked about
what that means, I was told the cells of my esophagus were very unhappy. I asked what that means and he said they were atypia or atypical. That's all.
Last Wednesday I saw him and told him I was in pain again. He recommended another scope and put me on a waiting list to quicken the pace to get one. I got one two days later (when a cancellation came in, he recommended that I take that spot). After the scope, I got a report that said normal. I confused that my medium to large hernia was not mentioned. As well a biopsy was done as my esophagus was raw.
Does this mean I don't have Barrett's esophagus? If my cells were changed/precancerous (atypical or abnormal) three years ago, wouldn't I have some Barrett's?
I'm concerned that for three years I wasn't told about
y esphagus damage. I was 29/30 at the time. Using words like it was a mess, unhappy and your cells were abnormal doesn't sit well. Even the fact, he got a scope redone ASAP as symptoms returned. Whenever I ask if I should be concerned. He never says anything more than the about
descript
ions.
I don't have my follow up appointment with results until next year (normal for Canada). I'm not worried about
cancer now but I'm 32 with two babies. I'm worried about
precancerous cells and how my doctor makes it sound bad without giving me an exact picture of how bad things are. He also made this second endoscopy seem urgent.
I'm so confused.
