Sounds more like he is have food stick at the wrap. This is very common in the early stages of recovery. We like to call it the hair ball effect. Where you bring food back up from the esophagus, not the actual stomach.
Have him really slow down when eating and only eat very small meals about 4 to 8 times a day. Also stay away from foods like soft bread, solid meats, and anything that can pile up like rice, potatoes, etc. Wait about a minute or so between bites and feel for the food to go through the wrap.
Getting food stuck at the wrap can cause the pain he's having as well.
Take care,
Bill
