Having Nissen fundoplication - how long to stay on clear liquids?

Hello there! I'm having a laproscopic Nissen done 3 March 2017 and I've been doing a lot of research. There seems to be so much conflicting information out there on how long to stay on liquid diet, etc. I've read that you should stay on a clear liquid diet for 2 weeks and not deviate - is this true? What diet restrictions work for you who have been through it?

Hello Eileen, it would be best to call the surgeons office (his nurse) and obtain a printout of what eating plan you should follow after surgery. That way you can purchase and have what you need on hand on your return home. There are many plans on the forum but I think it would be best coming from your surgeon. (Remember a blender too-- our most used device).

I agree with Pat, call your surgeons office. It seems that the dietary restrictions after the surgery differ from person to person.

Ask your surgeon, everyone is different. I am 5 days post-op and clear liquids are my friend. I tried ensure but am having to cut it down with apple juice. The bloating and swelling from surgery are still around and I imagine will be for a while. I am looking forward to something with a little more texture soon. Don't worry too much and good luck with your surgery.

Make sure to ask questions. This surgery can work, but you have to follow the doctor instructions and the eatting changes. Your Doctor should have a liquid to soft food diet for you to follow. Also ask about Anti nausea meds too.

I'm 8 weeks after mine and doing great and off my meds from before the surgery.
