GERD or LPR??

Ok so all my doctor told me in November 2012 is that I have Acid Reflux and he prescribed me Dexilant 60mg (which isn't working at all)

I've been reading all day and now I don't know if I have GERD or LPR.. I see there's a difference and I think my symptoms are more LPR.

  • My first symptoms were - Excessive throat clearing and A "lump" in the throat that doesn't go away with repeated swallowing... that's what took me to see the doctor in 2012.

    • But for the past 2-3 months I have - Persistent cough, Hoarseness and really bad heartburns, and having bad indigestion problems lately...also have a sore throat all the time and I've always had bad sinus problems.

    I will see my specialist again on June 2nd :)

    Julieash12 - I do definitely believe it could be both. I have both. I do not take any "medication", although I do take supplements (aloe vera capsules) and have modified my diet. However, when I exercise, the lump in my throat is the worst and I have terrible LPR ear pain from time to time. I would definitely mention it all to the doctor. The GI diagnosed me with GERD and the Ear/Nose/Throat doctor diagnosed me with LPR. I took Omeprazole (Prilosec prescription) for two weeks after the ear doctor visit, which did clear my ear pain up but nothing has helped with the throat clearing and the lump in my throat.

    I didn't know it was possible to have both.. then I think I do have both because I do get major heartburn often lately.

    I'm reading up on how to change my diet to help with the symptoms so I will try that from now till I see the specialist so I can tell him if it worked or not. only problem is I'm a choclaholic and and also love my coffee in the morning and the first thing I read is to quit chocolate and coffee OUTCH lol

    The specialist had talked about my weight when I saw him in November 2012 and I've lost 35lbs since then :) still have about 20-25lbs to lose tho so I'll work on that.

    heartburn , burping throat clearing but the worst of all is the dry stuffy nose diet helps burping and heart burn at times what can help the throat and nose ? having trouble sleeping with nose strips help
